4 Warning Signs Your Residential Furnace Needs To Be Repaired

Posted on

You depend on your furnace to keep you warm throughout the year. That is why you are going to want to ensure you know the warning signs that your residential heating system isn't working so that you can get a repair technician out to your home right away.

Warning Sign #1: Increased Energy Consumption

From one year to the next, your energy consumption should remain about the same at the same time of the year. For example, your energy consumption in January of last year should be about the same as it is in January of this year. If you notice you are using way more energy, the first system you should check out is your heating system.

Your heating system is one of the biggest consumers of energy, especially during the cold months of the year. If your energy bill is out of control, there may be something wrong with your heating system. Call in a specialist to inspect your system.

Warning Sign #2: Hot and Cold Spots

With a furnace, your house should be heated evenly throughout. If there are areas where there are hot spaces and cold spaces, that culprit is your heating system. Hot and cold spots throughout your house can be caused by damage to your furnace. If you notice that your house used to be evenly heated and seems to have recently developed hot and cold spaces, it is time to get your furnace inspected.

Warning Sign #3: Cold House

If your house just isn't heating up at all as it should, then you need to get an HVAC professional in right away to attend to your residential heating system. If your furnace is turning on and running, it should be able to keep your house warm, even if it is freezing outside. If your house is still cold after your furnace has been running for some time, something is broken and preventing your furnace from working properly.

Warning Sign #4: Strange Noises

You should be pretty used to the sounds that your furnace makes when it is operating properly. If your furnace suddenly starts to make unusual noises that are not part of the regular operating sounds that you expect it to make, it is time to get your unit inspected. It is only going to start making strange sounds if something is wrong with it.

If your furnace starts to give you signs that something isn't working right, don't ignore these signs and get lost in the cold. Instead, if your furnace is giving you warning signs that something is not right, get a heating technician in right away to repair it.
